Today we head for Hwange, the largest national park in Zimbabwe. This evening we will camp at Miombo lodge which is on the border of the Hwange National Park. Hwange is also home to the Big 5 (Lion, Leopard, Buffalo, Elephant and Rhino). Be sure to carry a torch at night as large game regularly passes through the camp. Included in our itinerary is a Game Drive in the National Park.
Day 6, 7: Victoria Falls
As we continue north on our journey, our next destination is Victoria Falls town, the adventure capital of southern Africa and home to the mighty Victoria Falls – one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Known as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” or “The smoke that thunders”, by the local Batonga people, the falls are both thrilling and captivating. Victoria Falls town itself offers a wide range of adventure activities including white water rafting and bungee jumping. Included in our itinerary is Victoria Falls viewing and a Boma dinner. Our accommodation will be in rooms at a guest house.
Day 8, 9: Kasane
This morning we will squeeze in our last few activities in Vic Falls, before heading for Kasane after lunch. Kasane is the entrance point into Chobe National Park, renowned as Africa’s greatest Elephant sanctuary. Our accommodation will be camping at Chobe Safari Lodge.
On our second day at Chobe, we’ll have an early rise as we reach the national park gates in time for a morning game drive. The afternoon holds a spectacular sunset cruise on the Chobe River. Whether you are on the morning game drive or the sunset cruise expect to encounter a large variety of wildlife at this magnificent reserve.
Day 10: Gweta
Having enjoyed our stay in Kasane, we head to the town of Gweta. Gweta is not the attraction but rather the Ntwetwe and Nxai Xini Pans. The pans are a vast, unspoilt moonscape expanse of the largest area of nothing on earth. The pans are an area the size of Switzerland, with not a single human inhabitant. The 360 degree view of flat, white horizon is really quite breathtaking! Upon arrival you may be briefed on the optional activities on offer for you to have a chance to explore the Ntwetwe and Nxai Xini pans. Our accommodation will be camping at Planet Baobab. Activities here are not pre included as the Kasane – Gweta road is deteriorating quickly making driving times difficult to determine.
Day 11 – 14: Sitatunga, Okavango Delta
Our destination today is Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta. Once we arrive we will set up camp at Sitatunga campsite.
The following morning we make our way into the fertile plains of the Okavango Delta. The impressive Okavango River spills its contents into the Kalahari Desert to create one of the world’s only true inland deltas. We set up camp on islands in the Delta and spend the next two days exploring its waterways by foot and dugout canoes (mokoros). The Okavango supports a unique ecosystem that boasts an abundance of animal and plant life. Our days will be full as we track the many different species that rely on the Okavango for their survival as well as simply enjoy the remoteness and tranquillity of the area.
On day 6 we return from the Delta in the morning to Maun where we will enjoy the swimming pool at Sitatunga Campsite. We will have the day to enjoy the optional activities on offer, such as a scenic flight over the Delta
Day 15: Palapye
